After the Election: Is the Future Clear for Tax Exemption?
As Congress and the administration negotiate to avoid the impact of spending cuts and tax hikes known as the fiscal cliff, attention is likely to be focused on tax expenditures -- the deductions and credits often used by the wealthiest taxpayers. The WebEx lays out some arguments that may emerge around the federal tax exemption of municipal bond interest, and considers some potential outcomes of those arguments, as well as their possible effects on the market for municipal bonds.
