Standish traces its roots back to 1933, when its predecessor firm, Standish, Ayer & Wood, Inc., began managing fixed income portfolios for US financial institutions, banks and insurance companies. In July 2001, Standish, Ayer & Wood became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mellon Financial Corporation and was renamed Standish Mellon Asset Management Company LLC. On July 1, 2007, The Bank of New York Company, Inc. and Mellon Financial Corporation (Standish's parent company) merged, creating a global leader in asset management and securities servicing: The Bank of New York Mellon Corporation (BNY Mellon). As a result of this transaction, Standish is a wholly-owned subsidiary of BNY Mellon, which is a publicly owned and traded company (NYSE: BK). As a wholly-owned subsidiary of BNY Mellon, Standish enjoys the support and backing of a well-capitalized parent company with a strong balance sheet.
